The Sunday Salon – Where Chris Rejoins The World Already In Progress
Hello peeps and Sunday Saloners! I had a funky week last week and have had a funky July in general so far, but I’m feeling better today and I’m hoping that it’s the start of a good rest of the month. I don’t know what’s been up with me but July may just end up being the worst reading month I’ve had in years. I haven’t even finished one book yet and it’s the 12th! I’m still only halfway through Fingersmith and I started Generation X by Coupland, but I haven’t read anything in 3 days now. I’ll change that tonight!
I was thinking of doing a vlog for Bad Bloggers tomorrow, but then again I didn’t get very many books this week. So I’ll probably just do a normal Bad Bloggers post. I’ve had a lot of people asking me who hosts Bad Bloggers lately and the answer is, that would be me. But you would never know it, because I’ve been a horrible host lately! Let it be known though that I’m not the originator of the idea. Debi started it with The Blame Game and then Pat did her own version, and I just turned it into a meme.
I really need to get better at my hosting duties. I’ll start mentioning that it’s a weekly meme for now on when I do my post and people can leave their links in the commens. I also started Music Mundays but haven’t been too good of a host lately for that either :p I should really give hosting duties for that one to someone else. Any takers? And then of course there’s The Dewey’s Books Reading Challenge that I’m hosting with Robin and I feel like I’ve been the absolute worst host for that. I haven’t fixed the links site yet, I haven’t been updating the page, and I just feel like a big let down. Especially since it’s a challenge that’s dedicated to someone I miss so much. Maybe that’s why I’ve been a bad host, because I miss Dewey…if that makes any sense. But I’ll get it together guys, I promise!! I have a fun mini-challenge that I’m hosting in August…at least I think it’s fun :p
Thinking way ahead here…I think I’m going to do NaNoWriMo again this year. I had so much fun the first year, but I honestly just couldn’t bring myself to do it last year. It wears you the hell out and the whole experience was too fresh in my mind to participate last year. But I think I’ve forgotten the torture enough to do it again :p I’m just trying to think of what I want to write. I think I want to do a YA book and I want to make it realistic, but it seems like I can’t write anything without throwing some fantasy in, lol. I just love fantasy so much. I promise there won’t be any vampires though…there’s enough of that out there. We’ll see what happens once it starts. I usually don’t even know what I’m going to write until I start writing. I’m not one to outline or anything like that. I usually just let the story take me where it wants to go. Hopefully it’ll take me far enough this time to get 50,000 words! It did last time!
Hope everyone had a great weekend! Off to read now…

not that I haven’t just talked with you on twitter!..
ummm.. so what is this mini challenge you are doing in august???? any hints???
Welcome back! And it is ONLY the 12th. I’m sure by the end of the month you’ll have your regular astounding amount of books read.
Deslily, LOL..you’ll find yourself saying that a lot now that you’re on Twitter. My mini challenge in August is for the Dewey’s Books Reading Challenge, but you don’t have to be doing the main challenge to participate! So I hope you do! All I can say is that it will be a group read
Not saying which book yet though
Lena, Astounding amount of books?? LOL…compared to some, my numbers are horrible, but thanks for the encouragement!! I hope you’re right
Quit giving yourself a hard time! You haven’t been feeling well and it’s expected that you would lag behind some things.
I don’t think I’m going to join in Nanowrimo this year. I utterly failed at it but I will be cheerleading everyone on. Maybe I’ll have a national reading month going on instead. Or national blog posting month. We’ll see.
Good luck with your reading and health.
Oh sweetie, you absolutely have not been a bad challenge host! And yes, I do get it about missing Dewey, and I think it makes a lot of sense.
You know, I’ve been having a lousy reading month, too! Just can’t get my act together lately. Don’t know why. One book so far. Yikes! But I hope to finish Nation tonight. And you know, that book alone makes any month a success!!!!
So cool that you’re considering NaNoWriMo again! I stand in complete awe of all of you who even try, let alone finish. Annie’s definitely excited to do it again.
Hope you keep feeling better, dear friend!!!!!!!!
So, are you saying you are not only a Bad Blogger, but also a Bad Blogger Host?! ;->
Hope the rest of the month goes really well for you and that your health improves!
How’s Generation X going? I’m on a Coupland re-read quick, finished Girl In Coma (thanks to Nymeths review) working on Hey Nostradamus (thanks to You, Bart & Nymeth) next is either GenX or Polaroids From The Dead. Coupland is so good.
Can’t wait to hear about your mini-challenge, it will be fantastic I’m sure!
NaNoWriMo huh? Sounds very fun, but very hard. My guy thinks I should write a book because I’m always making up funny/weird/bizarre stories. But I’m more of a talker. Put a pen in my hand and my brain shuts down
Best of luck with your writing, and if the fantasy is always creeping in, perhaps that’s what your meant to do. Magic realism is a fascinating genre.
You’re way to hard on yourself Chris!! Hope this week proves to be a better one than last and that you’re reading picks up for you!!
Vasilly, A reading month sounds like a really good idea!! If there’s time left, I may join in that too :p
Debi, I just feel like I’ve been a bad challenge host
I know I’m supposed to be celebrating Dewey, but it’s rough to do that all the time without grieving over her, you know? I know you do! You’ve read one book more than me this month! lol…I’m so happy you’re reading Nation…such a wonderful book. And I totally think you need to do NaNoWriMo! It’s such a great experience!
Debnance, I am indeed, lol…I like that one
Terri, Thank you! Appreciate it
Joanne, I’ve just started it actually, but it’s pretty damn cool so far. I need to get into it.You should totally do NaNoWriMo! It is hard, I won’t lie about that, but it’s so rewarding and I love the community around it. You’d do great!
Staci, It’s my best and worst quality :p I’m hoping this weeks better too! Thanks!
Yay Nanowrimo! Considering hosting it at school this year… It might be hell to organise and my chances of actually making the word count would be next to none, but it would be great fun!
You have not been a bad challenge host, Chris! Sometimes life just gets in the way. I’m sorry you’ve been having a bad month, but hopefully it will pick up from now on. You are reading two fantastic books; surely that will help
I see that Joanne mentioned Polaroids from the Dead – you have to read that one too! It’s non-fiction, but it’s actually not all that different from his fiction. And it was the book that made me discover Truman Capote, so it’ll always be special for me.
Good to see you back posting Chris. But did you have to mention, NANOWRIMO? I’ve been trying to ignore the fact is was drawing near again.
I second Vasilly. Quit giving yourself a hard time! Honestly, your life is giving you a hard enough time without you adding to it! *hugs*
Maybe we should do NaNo together this year. I haven’t participated since… Er, whenever it was that I did. It’d be fun to do it again (but I have no story long enough). And you haven’t been a bad host! (Anyway, how could you be with the memes you’ve started? Bad Bloggers is certainly all over the place without set times. How would you go about hosting it in the first place?)
*sends good thoughts*
Stormfilled, You better participate again this year!!! And I can’t tell you how much I love you for even considering hosting the Young Writers Program at your school!!!! Seriously, I give money to that program every year because I think it’s the most incredible thing. You’re amazing
Nymeth, I’m actually committing myself to read some of Fingersmith tonight and I’m excited about it..that’s a good sign
I have Polaroids from the Dead on my Bookmooch wishlist and it’s one of the only ones that hasn’t come up yet! I really do need to read that one…I think it sounds fantastic!
Bart, >_> Me? Throw stuff on people and make them think of it way to early? Never! LOL…Are you doing NaNo again this year???? You have to!
Shanra, I’m so excited that you’re thinking of doing NaNo!! Seriously, I’m a NaNo pusher. You’ll see, lol. The closer it gets, you’ll start seeing me commenting on everyone’s blogs telling them that they just HAVE to do it :p I don’t have a story yet either, so don’t worry about that..it’ll come to you. It’ll be so much fun to write along with you this year and we can give each other little pep talks when we want to throw our computers through the windo :p
Actually, I think NaNo might be good for me. I haven’t been having a decent writing month in years. I should just use the coming months to prepare a general story line to work with.
It’s the characters aren’t talking to me is the problem. With Nano maybe I can convince them to start talking again. I might tackle my weird alternate earth fey world… I miss my kelpie. T-T Or I might try my go at magical girl novels which refuses to let itself make sense. (But that’s okay, right? It’s not like the genre generally does.) Probably the latter. I need to rework all I have of it and that’s like half of the 50K needed and barely off the starting blocks. (By ‘rework’ I mean ‘rewrite from scratch using what you have as a general outline’, so it’s not cheating!) *rambleramble*
I think too much and write too little… But the goats cooperated! Write a story about goats, Chris. They cooperate with people!
I did the nano in 2004. It was fun, and horrible at the same time. I toy with it every year, but just never seem to get into it again.
I’ve been thinking about Dewey a lot lately too, so you’re not alone there.
I hope your week picks up.
